Mission: “Develop community leadership for outreach, education, policy, and advocacy in tobacco control.”
Vision: “To create tobacco-free, healthy Asian Pacific Islander communities.”
APICAT addresses tobacco control issues within the AAPI community by supporting culturally competent prevention, education, and cessation efforts with adults, youth and families. APICAT is also committed to eliminating health disparities impacting diverse communities.
Funding
The Washington State Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program funds five communities: African American, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), Hispanic/Latino, LGBTQ, and Urban Native American communities to address tobacco control issues in their respective communities. APICAT serves as the program’s Cross-Cultural Contractor for AAPI communities.
Washington Asian Pacific Islander Families Against Substance Abuse (WAPIFASA) acts as the fiscal agent for APICAT. WAPIFASA was one of the first organizations in the AAPI community to address tobacco control issues and provided leadership in organizing what is now formally known as APICAT.
